Dosing technology

Why talcum imposes special requirements in sachet filling

Talcum looks uncomplicated - a fine white powder. Its lamellar crystal structure makes it a problem material for conventional volumetric dosing systems.

Bridging at the dosing head

Platelet-shaped talcum crystals interlock instead of sliding past each other. Conventional volumetric dosing fails: the filling chamber starves and fill weights drift out of tolerance.

Vibration flooding

Under vibration - which every packaging line generates - talcum switches from solid to quasi-liquid behavior. The same material that bridges will flood under vibration. Volumetric systems cannot compensate for both failure modes at once.

Dust carryover at the seal seam

Fine cosmetic talcum generates considerable dust during dosing. In open line configurations, talcum dust contaminates the seal seam zone before heat sealing - causing delamination and package leaks.

Auger dosing is the technically correct solution - not the convenient one.

The auger geometry determines the fill volume per revolution, independent of the powder's flow behavior. We calibrate auger diameter, pitch and speed for each specific talcum product before production release. Our lines work with enclosed dosing heads and mechanical seal seam protection. The result is documented in the batch record.

Technical requirements

What matters in talcum filling

Clean dosing

Consistent fill weights through volumetric or gravimetric dosing. Low-dust handling for a safe production process.

Clean dosing

The right film quality

Depending on the application, different film qualities are used - from easily sealable laminates to moisture-resistant barrier films.

The right film quality

Reliable sealing

3- or 4-side sealing for a tight, even closure. Suitable for dry bulk goods and fine-grained powders.

Reliable sealing

Batch-related documentation

On request, complete batch documentation for traceability and quality assurance.

Product range

Which talcum we fill into Sachet filling

The application spectrum ranges from cosmetic consumer products to industrial process materials and supplement excipients.

Cosmetic talcum

Body powders, foot powders, baby powders, after-shave powders, setting powders. D50 typically 2-15 µm, asbestos-free, compliant with EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009/EC. Filling in the HACCP-controlled area, GMP documentation as standard.

Cosmetic talcum

Industrial talcum

Release agent portions for rubber and plastics processing, anti-blocking agents, lubricant portions. D50 15-50 µm. Fill weight tolerance is calibrated product-specifically - not assumed across the board.

Industrial talcum

Talcum as a supplement excipient

Talcum as a flow enhancer or anti-caking aid in premix sachets for food supplement manufacturers. Filling under HACCP, raw material CoA and GC-MS identity testing on request.

Format decision

Sachet or stick pack - what decides?

Both formats are available for talcum. The decision does not depend on the material - it depends on the usage context.

Stick pack

3-side sealed, 10-20 mm wide, fill range 5-30 g. Suitable for single portions: industrial release agent applications, wellness and personal care units, on-the-go body powders.

Note: The slim format places higher demands on dosing accuracy - bridging at the dosing head is a more critical parameter in the narrow filling channel than with a sachet.

Sachet

3- or 4-side sealed, fill range 10-500 g. Suitable for larger single portions, commercial release agent units and applications where pack size matters more than portability.

Note: Seal geometries, temperature and dwell time parameters are not transferable between stick pack and sachet - machine configurations are calibrated separately.

The format recommendation for a specific talcum product is developed during the technical product assessment - based on fill weight, bulk density, particle size and end use.

Quality assurance

From incoming raw material testing to the sealed sachet

Talcum arrives with a supplier CoA. That is the starting point - not sufficient.

Avoria GmbH performs GC-MS identity testing (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) on incoming talcum before a production order begins. For cosmetic talcum, this explicitly addresses the asbestos contamination risk from naturally occurring magnesium silicate deposits.

At least ten consecutive test fills are documented before production release. Any deviation outside tolerance stops production and triggers a documented root cause analysis - no silent correction.

Batch record

What the batch record contains

  • GC-MS raw material identity result
  • Fill weight log with tolerance evidence
  • Auger configuration and sealing parameter settings
  • Finished goods weight verification
  • Product-specific CoA (where applicable)
  • Seal seam integrity evidence per batch
This is the document set that client-side quality audits request - at initial qualification and at the annual audit.

Certification

ISO 9001 & HACCP - what that means for clients

ISO 9001:2015

The production system is audited - not just described. Processes are documented, deviations are tracked and recorded, corrective actions checked for effectiveness. Certification documents on request within 10-14 working days.

HACCP & EU Cosmetics Regulation

Directly relevant for cosmetic talcum: EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009/EC requires documentary evidence of GMP conformity. HACCP is implemented for food-contact and cosmetic production environments.

Supplier qualification

Audit rights, qualification documentation and process transparency are a standard part of the onboarding process. An on-site audit at the Roßtal facility is available to clients as standard as part of supplier qualification.

Direct manufacturer - no subcontractor

Production exclusively in our own certified facility in Roßtal, Bavaria. Every batch can be traced back to the specific production order, the raw material lot and the QA documentation. No interface break in the documentation chain.

What Avoria GmbH does not fill: Substances requiring pharmaceutical authorization under the German Medicines Act, controlled substances, and explosive or pyrotechnic materials. Non-standard particle sizes, surface-treated grades and combination powders are assessed on request.

Important note

Not every talcum can be filled without assessment

Dust behavior, flowability, grain size, moisture content and material compatibility must be checked before production starts. We carry out this assessment transparently - you receive clear feedback on feasibility and conditions.

For a quick assessment we need

  • Product data sheet (if available)
  • Fill weight per sachet
  • Desired quantity
  • Pouch format (if known)
  • Material preference (film type)
  • Desired delivery date
  • Target price (optional)
No public pricing. The price depends on fill quantity, material, film, printing, setup effort, quantity and packaging. Send us your key data - we assess the most economical implementation.

Cosmetic talcum (D50 2-15 µm, asbestos-free per EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009/EC), industrial talcum (D50 15-50 µm for release agent and anti-blocking applications), and talcum as a flow enhancer in supplement premix sachets. Surface-treated and specialty grades are assessed on request.

Both formats are technically available. Stick packs suit single portions of 5-30 g; sachets suit larger commercial units of 10-500 g. The format recommendation is based on fill weight, bulk density and end use - not on machine utilization. The decision is made during the technical product assessment.

Yes. GC-MS identity testing (gas chromatography-mass spectrometry) is performed on incoming talcum before production begins. For cosmetic talcum, this explicitly addresses the asbestos contamination risk from naturally occurring magnesium silicate deposits. The GC-MS result is part of the batch record.

The batch record contains: the GC-MS raw material identity result, fill weight log with tolerance evidence, auger configuration and sealing parameter settings, finished goods weight verification and - where applicable - a product-specific CoA. This is the standard document set that client-side quality audits request.

Yes. External ISO 9001:2015 certification demonstrates the conformity of the audited quality management system. HACCP is implemented for food-contact and cosmetic production environments. This directly supports the GMP documentation requirements of EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009/EC in supplier qualification.

Standard qualification runs in 10-14 working days from inquiry: provision of certification documents, technical product assessment (particle size, bulk density, fill weight, format) and quote preparation. An on-site audit at the Roßtal facility is possible within this timeframe or separately.

Minimum order quantities depend on talcum grade, fill weight and format (sachet vs. stick pack). Product-specific MOQ figures are part of the quote after technical product assessment. An inquiry via the contact form starts the qualification process without obligation.
